In the coming years the Netherlands is planning a transition from an energy system based on fossil fuels to one based on renewable energy. The transition process will require substantial efforts in terms of finding renewable energy solutions and improving energy efficiency.
While the Covid-19 crisis will undoubtedly impact the Dutch economy in the coming years, large investments in energy transition will go ahead as planned. Green energy transition will play an important role in the economic recovery. At the same time, the two countries are pushing ahead with plans for large investments in wind energy and development of Power-to-X technology and, in the Netherlands, a new heating act focused on expansion of fossil free district heating systems.
Last fall, the two countries took a significant step in terms of closer cooperation in the energy sector by launching the COBRA cable. The cable is a 325 km long underwater interconnector between Denmark and the Netherlands, which enables the transportation of renewable energy between the countries. This connection is an example of the close ties between the two countries, and illustrates the potential for future innovative cooperation between Danish and Dutch companies in the energy sector.
The Royal visit will provide excellent opportunities for Danish businesses to establish and maintain close cooperation with a variety of Dutch partners. Together, we will pave the way for even closer ties between our ambitious and like-minded countries.
